Greetings From Our Pastor

One of my favorite Bible stories is Jesus and a woman of Samaria at the well in John’s gospel (John 4:4-26). Like the woman at the well, many of us are seeking things that cannot satisfy and quench our thirsty souls. In the story I hear Jesus' invitation to come to him as he offers us living water. Jesus says, if we ask him, he will give us living water (John 4:10) and “those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty."

Sometimes, I ask myself “Why do people still choose to come to worship on Sunday when they have other choices?”  “What are people seeking for in their life?”  “What kind church are we called to be?

When I think about Kensington UMC and who we are, an image comes to me is a well where all the thirsty souls come and taste the living water that Jesus offers.  I imagine, at this life-giving well, people who live in shame and guilt find mercy and grace of God.  At the well, people who live with fear of shackles find freedom and taste eternal life.  I see Jesus sitting at this life-giving well with a warm smile and waiting for people.
