OUTREACH

"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me."  Matthew 25:35-36, NRSV

Service to others has been an integral role of the United Methodist Church since its very inception. Through our connectional giving programs, we are able to reach out to those in our community, our nation and the world.

2011 Outreach Projects

Fleece for Peace 2011

We completed our Fleece for Peace project on December 18th. About 30 blankets were given to the Prudence Crandall Center. Many thanks to those who participated in this year's project!

Thanksgiving and Christmas

We once again provided baskets of food and Christmas gifts to families in our town.

Feed My Starving Children MobilePack Event

KUMC joined 79 other organizations for the 2011 Feed My Starving Children MobilePack Event, sponsored by Bethany Covenant Church and Northeast Utilities. During our two hour shift, our team prepared 756 packages of ingredients that are specially formulated to restore life to starving children through out the world.

Souper Bowl of Caring

The children of the Sunday School and Preschool raised their own money for their Souper Bowl of  Caring project. They collected water bottles that were redeemed for cash. Each child then went on a  grocery shopping spree to purchase "kid friendly" food for the Prudence Crandall Center.

They also took take a special offering on February 6th during the worship service. Parishioners were asked to donate $1.00 (or more) for the Prudence Crandall Center.

Japan Disaster Relief

The people of KUMC responded to the Bishop's appeal for donations to UMCOR for disaster relief in Japan. Thank you to all for your contributions.

Health Kits for Disaster Relief

The people of the church recently assembled Health Kits which were sent to the United Methodist Committee on Relief. The kits contain personal care items, such as soap, toothpaste and brush, washcloth, hand towel, comb, band-aids and nail clippers.

School Kits for Disaster Relief

Our Sunday School and preschool children assembled School Kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Each kit contains school supplies such as paper, pencils, crayons, packaged in a tote bag. UMCOR collects kits throughout the year to replenish supplies lost in floods, fires, and other disasters. For example, after Hurricane Irene, 723 School Kits were sent to New York, 1,197 to Pennsylvania, and 1,344 to Texas. Amazingly, over 30,000 School Kits have been shipped to Haiti.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) responds to natural disasters in the United States and throughout the world. 100% of donations are used for the designated project.

LOCAL GIVING

Our local church provides Thanksgiving food baskets as well as Christmas gifts and food baskets to local families in need. We also provide support to the Berlin Food Pantry as well as other local organizations, such as The Friendship Service Center and the Prudence Crandall Center.
